    ByMarc D Anderson February 1, 2010February 14, 2010

And why should that matter to you? Well, since I missed the big SPC09 in Las Vegas last year, I’m hoping that I’ll have the chance to meet some of you fine folks who read this blog or correspond with me. From all accounts, SPTechCon is going to be a great event.  These things are…

Determining if a User Is in a Permission Group with SharePoint’s Web Services

    ByMarc D Anderson January 29, 2010July 12, 2022

It’s not unusual to want to know if a user is in a certain permission group and change how a page behaves based on whether or not s/he is.  AlexLee over on EndUserSharePoint.com‘s Stump the Panel asked how you might be able to do this using SharePoint’s Web Services.  jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services…

Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags – Part 3 – <xsl:call-template>

    ByMarc D Anderson January 26, 2010February 5, 2013
This entry is part 3 of 21 in the series Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags

Cross-posted from EndUserSharePoint.com… <xsl:call-template> This is how you call a template which you’ve defined with <xsl-template>. In the last installment, I showed you what templates SharePoint Designer usually creates when you set up a Data View Web Part (DVWP). Having the templates in place is great, but you need a way to chain them together…

Applying "Product Service Systems" to Corporate Environments

    ByMarc D Anderson January 24, 2010February 14, 2010

There’s a great article in the Boston Sunday Globe today entitled The Leased Life. It talks about what is termed the “product service system”.  The basic idea is that many of the things we buy we don’t buy because we want the thing itself, but what the thing can do for us.  We buy tomatoes…

Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags – Part 2 – <xsl:template>

    ByMarc D Anderson January 22, 2010February 5, 2013
This entry is part 2 of 21 in the series Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags

Cross-posted from EndUserSharePoint.com… <xsl:template> Think of a template as a subroutine. It’s a unit of XSL to which you pass control. A template in a Data View Web Part’s (DVWP’s) XSL is a really important “unit of measure”. When you first drop a DVWP on the page and configure it, SharePoint Designer will automagically create…

Revisiting My Post: jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services: Interim Update on What’s Coming Up in v0.5.0

    ByMarc D Anderson January 20, 2010February 14, 2010

I’ve been meaning to revisit my post from November 1 last year entitled jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services: Interim Update on What’s Coming Up in v0.5.0.  I wanted to see how I was doing, if I’d forgotten about anything, etc. Reading through the post, I’m happy to say that I’m still having the fun…

Upgrading from jQuery 1.3.2 to 1.4

    ByMarc D Anderson January 19, 2010July 12, 2022

I’m going to capture the things I find that are problems as I upgrade my jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services from jQuery 1.3.2 to the just released jQuery 1.4. In theory everything ought to work as is, but we all know that life doesn’t always work that way.  As I find things, I’ll add them to this…

Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags – Part 1: Overview

    ByMarc D Anderson January 19, 2010February 5, 2013
This entry is part 1 of 21 in the series Unlocking the Mysteries of Data View Web Part XSL Tags

Cross-posted from EndUserSharePoint.com… Data View Web Parts (DVWPs) are, to me, the most powerful feature in SharePoint. You’ve probably heard them called the Swiss Army Knife of SharePoint and there’s really very little that you can’t display with them if you understand how they work. But understanding the inner working of DVWPs requires knowledge of…

jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services v0.4.8 Released

    ByMarc D Anderson January 19, 2010July 12, 2022

I released v0.4.8 of the jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services yesterday.  As always, I recommend an upgrade, as I continue to make efficiency boosts in each version.  Significant in 0.4.8, I made the $().SPServices.SPGetCurrentSite function smarter, so that it only calls the Webs Web Service’s WebUrlFromPageUrl operation once per page to cut down on…
