I posted last September about Date Calculations in a DVWP. In that post, I pointed out Andy Lewis’ great post about how to do Filtering and Formatting with Date Values over at the Microsoft SharePoint Designer Team Blog. I’ve been answering quite a few questions about date arithmetic over at the MSDN forums lately, so…
UPDATE 2009-08-26: We’ve translated this logic into our jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services. I *strongly* suggest that you look at that as an option, as it is far more robust. And free! In my post last week entitled Cascading Dropdown Columns in a SharePoint Form – Part 1, I showed how to create cascading dropdowns,…
When I’m working on a project, we almost always use a SharePoint Task List to manage our outstanding tasks. I’ve seen many people try to overcomplicate this process with complex workflows, roles, and permissions, but to me some simple tweaks and conventions to the basic Task List get you much further along and make life…
UPDATE 2009-08-26: I’ve translated this logic into my jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services. I *strongly* suggest that you look at that as an option, as it is far more robust. And free! UPDATE 2009-07-19: I’ve added a second post on this with a simpler example. It also contains a link to a demo page which…
I’ve been watching so many folks out there doing cool things with jQuery, and it’s time to bite the bullet and get up to speed. I wanted to take a look at something I’d recently posted about and see how I could do it with jQuery rather than pure JavaScript to see what the differences…
I’ve noticed over the last few months that many of the SharePoint blogs which I’ve been following for years have sort of gone away. They are actually still there, but rather than being a source of great, insightful information about new ways to do things with SharePoint, tips and tricks, code snippets, and the like,…
Many so-called Web 2.0 sites show a little icon for any links which send you out of their purview to another site. This is a nice thing to do within SharePoint as well. You can easily make this happen without users needing to take any action by adding some JavaScript into your master page. I…
Say you have a list of people (or rooms or products or whatever) where you would like to let the user specify the first letter of the person and then show them all of the people’s names which start with that letter. Doable, of course, and a nice little recursive XSL template can get you…
If you’ve been around for a while and/or you subscribe to Consumer Reports Magazine, you know what Harvey Balls are. They are little circles with varying amounts filled in which can be used to represent a level of completeness, sophistication, match to a standard, etc. They are a good replacement for numerical scales in many…
UPDATE 2009-10-19: I solved this for real in the jQuery Library for SharePoint Web Services function called $().SPServices.SPRedirectWithID. Feel free to read this post, but this is the solution you’re looking for. UPDATE 2009-10-01: I’ve posted an update on this idea. It’s possible to simplify the interstitial page using the Web Services from the jQuery Library for…
