Have I ever mentioned that I’m a big fan of Data View Web Parts (DVWPs)? Well, yes I am. I find them indispensable to display the contents of lists in a nice, clean format rather than staying with the out-of-the-box views that the list provides. One issue with this is that Search and RSS want…
I’ve looked for quite a while now for a good reference for what formulas are available to me when I create a calculated column in SharePoint. Today I think I stumbled on the easy answer: Excel. Here’s a simple example. I wanted to return the year for the Created date. When I just used: =YEAR([Created])…
I’ve been working with the Telerik RADEditor for SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) for a while now. It is a wonderful substitute for the out-of-the-box Rich Text Editor (RTE) that comes with SharePoint. It is highly configurable without writing any code, but if you want to get fancy, it is a well engineered ASP.NET application that is…
If you’ve read much of my blog in the past, you know that I’m a big fan of the Data View Web Part (DVWP). It’s my tool of choice in many cases to customize display of content from lists. Many people are more aware of the Content Query Web Part (CQWP) because it can be…
Today, in one of my occasional manual visits to Windows Update, I was offered the Office 2003 SP3 important update, but I am running Office 2007. My guess is that because I upgraded from Office 2003 that some widget or another is still around that makes Windows Update want to offer SP3 to me. Methinks…
Interesting post about some upcoming enhancements to Live Maps. From what I’ve been able to glean, these enhancements should be available on October 16th (or so). Think of this: pretty soon you will be able build a Popfly mashup that shows a map of your recent trip with your route highlighted, with clickable pushpins that…
While trying to solve an unrelated problem (Why can’t I have a Rich Text column that works right in a Document Library in SharePoint?!?!? More on that later…), I ran across this great post on Keith Bunge’s blog (Click Mice, Unclick Mice): Data View Web Parts bound to List Names. By binding your Data View…
I’ve found that if you create a Web Part Connection between two Web Parts using the SharePoint UI, you cannot reliably remove the connection. After you remove the connection, if you remove one of the connected Web Parts, you often get an error that SharePoint can’t find the identifier of the removed Web Part. This…
Say you want to have a SharePoint site that displays all of the items in a list that were created this month, but also have an archive listing, like most blogs do. There’s a neat trick that you can use to make this work. First, add a column to the items in your list called…
I’m just starting to work on a Web Service that will generate Word 2007 documents from a set of templates. The inputs will be data from a SharePoint list. (More on that part of it when I get there.) As I began setting up the Web Service, I realized that the System.IO.Packaging and Microsoft.Office.DocumentFormat.OpenXml.Packaging assemblies…
