New Sharing Dialog for SharePoint and OneDrive
Looks like we’re seeing the new Share dialog in our Sympraxis Consulting tenant this morning, which is set to Targeted Release. It’s been a long time coming, and we know how much work Stephen Rice and his team at Microsoft have put into it to get it into production. Steven has created a series of videos which will help you understand this change: the whys and the hows: OneDrive + Copilot digital event promo | October 20, 2026
This new dialog may confuse your users at first (it’s change!), but I firmly believe in the long run, you’ll find it more useful and intuitive. See my benefits summary below.

Benefits
Here’s my list of the benefits of this change:
- One link to rule them all aka Hero Link – Rather than each link you get when you share something being unique, every link to an object is always going to be identical. The resolution of that link will now happen on the back end, based on who is using it. If the person with the link doesn’t have access, they will get a nice, clean error message.
- Streamlined User Interface (UI) – Even though the last rev of this dialog was more streamlined than what came before, I feel this UI will help people get what they need done more easily.
- Access info right up front – It’s also just easier to see who has access to something, as it’s right on the screen when you start to share. Already shared with someone? Well, that will be easy to see.
- Manage people’s access right in the sharing dialog – Want to remove someone’s access (assuming you have permission to do so)? You can do that right in the sharing dialog.
You may or may not have seen this update in your tenant yet. If you do, what do you think?
