SPServices Passes 100,000 Total Downloads
Here are some numbers for the meaningless-but-fun-statistics bin. Codeplex collects a bunch of numbers for me, so I can preserve them here.
Yesterday, Sunday, October 27th, 2013, SPServices crossed the 100,000 total downloads threshold. I posted the first version of SPServices (SPServices 0.2.3) on Codeplex on Aug 19th, 2009 as an alpha. That means it’s taken 4 years, 2 months, and 9 days – that’s 1531 days – to reach 100,000 downloads. That’s over 65 downloads per day!
During that same period, SPServices has also had almost 3,000,000 page views – 2,945,339 to be exact. I like to think that this number is a testament to the quality of the documentation.
There have been over 3/4 million visits to the Codeplex site.
It’s been a fun 4 years, 2 months, and 9 days working on and supporting SPServices. I doubt it’s got another 4 years in it, but I look forward to many more months and downloads to come.
Yes, I do make it up in volume.
Congratulations Marc. I wasn’t the least bit interested in SharePoint until I discovered SPServices and what it could do. I’ve pretty-much forged a new career thanks to you. Many thanks.
Joel:
Stuff like that is always so great to hear. Glad that you’ve enjoyed using SPServices and I hope there’s plenty more fun to come.

Yes, congratulations!!!. It was SPServices and your articles about DVWPs and XSL that opened up my career in SharePoint. Now that my organization is finally upgrading from 2007 to 2013 I may use it a bit less now that I’ll have REST and CSOM available. But it will definitely remain an essential tool for me and dozens of other power users and developers at my organization, especially for the value-added functions for forms.
Thanks, Josh. It was the intense interest from people like you that kept me going on all of this stuff!

You deserve it. Long way to go.
