Windows SharePoint Services 2003 “Master Page” (Part 2)

I posted earlier about editing the default.aspx file in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\MPS directory to apply branding to your SharePoint 2003 sites.  I was focused on meeting sites at the time.  Today I realized that each of the directories under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1033\ contains a default.aspx for a different type of site.  Here’s how it breaks down:

GP – ???
MPS – Meeting workspaces
SPS – Sharepoint Portal Server Home
SPSCOMMU – Community area template (Sharepoint Portal Server)
SPSMSITE – My Site (Sharepoint Portal Server)
SPSNEWS – News area template (Sharepoint Portal Server)
SPSNHOME – News Home area template (Sharepoint Portal Server)
SPSPERS – My Site Team Sites
SPSSITES – Site directory area template (Sharepoint Portal Server)
SPSTOC – Contents area template (Sharepoint Portal Server)
SPSTOPIC – Topic area template (Sharepoint Portal Server)
STS – Sharepoint Team Services (WSS)
